Very good salvage. I like the lighting as it appears here; it's the night and these are some of the usual nocturnal human critters doing their ritual thing. ;o)

I'd start by setting the black and white points and evaluating the lighting after correcting the color. You may prefer it uncorrected --there's nothing wrong with that-- but it looks better to me with the correction. I don't have the original, just what I saved off this page, which is low resolution, noisy, and has clipped shadows and highlights --but if your original is a RAW file I think you still have quite a bit of room for adjustment. Also, for my taste, I find I like it better after using the Photoshop "shadows/highlight" command to lighten shadows and increase midtone contrast.

@Twelvebit: Thanks for taking the time to give such specific suggestions! I'll keep tinkering with it - I like the people and their expressions, so it's worth spending some time on.
