Oaxaca Twilight

June 1984. This is one of the first images I ever made with a camera, on my first trip outside the USA, when I was a student working on a TV documentary in Mexico. This very stretch of road has been in the news lately, the site of violence and striking workers. Even though it looks rather peaceful and deserted, the potential for conflict is still present somehow -- at least to my imagination.

This is kind of a "Where's Waldo" exercise, but if you look very closely, you can see the man on top of the tower taking the flag down for the evening, and part of the honor guard to the left.
